Palliative Care Equipment Program 2011-2012
During National Palliative Care Week 2011, the Federal Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Mark Butler, announced an additional three million dollars nationally to augment equipment loans schemes that directly support the care of dying Australians in the community.
Following this announcement Palliative Care Queensland (PCQ) was commissioned to distribute this funding across Queensland.
Grants were provided upon an application basis from appropriate palliative care and other relevant organisations for the purchase of palliative care aids and equipment that must be loaned to terminally ill patients, their families and carers.
The funding guidelines for the purchase of palliative care aids and equipment under the Palliative Care Equipment Program are:
The equipment must be made available for free loan (delivery charges excepted) to terminally ill patients, their families and carers who are either:
* domicile in the community/at home whilst receiving palliative care;
* domicile in another community type setting whilst receiving palliative care, or
* domicile in a residential aged care facility whilst receiving palliative care.
Typically, eligible equipment includes portable electric beds, pressure relieving mattresses, wheelchairs, electric recliners and syringe drivers.
For a full list of successful applicants and the equipment for which they have been approved please download this document – Successful Applicants
Successful applicants have now been informed and also need to complete the Banking Details Form (pdf) and the Patient & Carer Quality Impact Survey (pdf)
